Clients, colleagues and industry partners join forces to raise funds and awareness for mental health in construction.
On 16th May, the team at Net Temps will be swapping desks for hiking boots as we take on Kinder Scout, the highest peak in the Peak District, in support of the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity.
This charity hike is more than just a day out in the hills. It’s an opportunity for our colleagues, clients, and industry partners to come together to raise money and awareness for mental health in the construction industry—a cause that is incredibly important to many of us.

Supporting Mental Health in the Construction Industry
The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity provides crucial support to construction workers and their families who are experiencing financial hardship, mental health struggles, or wellbeing challenges.
The charity offers a range of services including:
- A 24/7 confidential helpline
- Free counselling and emotional support
- Financial assistance for workers and families
- Wellbeing and mental health training for the industry
Mental health challenges are still a significant issue within the construction sector, making organisations like the Lighthouse Charity vital. By raising funds, we’re helping ensure construction workers have access to the support they need when they need it most.
The Inspiration Behind the Charity Hike
This event has been organised by our Senior Recruitment Consultant, Parris Brown, who joined the charity’s committee last year.
Parris became involved with the Lighthouse Charity through her relationship with a client, Dean, who serves as the charity’s Vice Chairman. After attending the Lighthouse Charity Christmas Lunches in December, Parris delivered a powerful speech about her own mental health journey and personal experiences.
Her openness about living with ADHD and BPD has helped spark meaningful conversations about mental health in the workplace, particularly within the construction industry.
Since joining the committee, Parris has been passionate about organising events that not only raise funds but also help break the stigma around mental health.
All funds raised throughout the year will be presented during the Lighthouse Christmas Lunches later this year, where supporters and contributors will be recognised for their efforts.
For Parris, the idea for the event came naturally…
In her spare time, she enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors. Organising a charity hike in the Peak District felt like the perfect way to combine something she loves with fundraising for a cause she cares deeply about.
Rather than hosting a traditional networking event, the Kinder Scout challenge offers something different — a chance for clients and colleagues to:
- Connect outside of the workplace
- Promote physical and mental wellbeing
- Support an important construction industry charity
It’s also a great reminder that sometimes the best conversations happen away from the office.

Here’s everything you need to know if you’re joining us on the day:

Meeting Point: Edale Car Park (HPBC) – Village Centre, S33 7ZQ
Meeting Time: 8:00 AM
Parking: Approximately £6 for all-day parking
Hike Duration: The route will take approximately 4–5 hours to complete.
Once we’ve conquered Kinder Scout, we’ll be heading to a local pub for a well-deserved drink to celebrate the achievement. And to keep spirits high, Net Temps will be covering everyone’s first round at the bar, so another great reason to join us!
